Information from JU regarding the corona virus

JU has continued dialogue with the Infection Control Department regarding how to best inform the students expected to arrive or who have recently arrived in Jönköping. These students are informed in person, after recommendations from the Infection Control Department. Several students have already practiced self-quarantine, on their own initiative.

The work and activities at JU will continue as normal.

JU is an international university. Therefore, we need to act considering we have students and staff travelling to and from China.

If you feel worried, the Student Health Care (the Counsellor) has activated their crisis phone line number +46 36-10 10 69 or+46 73-910 15 09. Telephone hours are between 08:00-17:00JU’s recommendations to students traveling to or from China:

  • If you show symptoms of the coronavirus, contact the public healthcare at 1177 immediately.
  • If you are arriving from China, we recommend, in line with the Infection Control Department, that you should minimize the number of contacts you have in the coming 14 days. JU will help you with your studies and with a special accommodation as well as other support. Contact the crisis phoneline on +46 73-910 15 09.
  • The International Office at JU is mapping the students which have recently arrived in Jönköping from China or will be arriving in the upcoming weeks.
  • The crisis organisation is in dialogue with the Infection Control Department doctor regarding how we are advised to inform the students who are expected to arrive or recently have arrived in Jönköping.
  • Information to these students is given via personal contact and is done in line with recommendations made by the Infection Control Department as well as the Public Health Agency of Sweden.
  • We are following the recommendations from The Ministry for Foreign Affairs.

Jönköping University has taken the following actions in regards to the coronavirus.

  • JU’s crisis organisation has been activated by President Agneta Marell. Hanna Ståhl, Dean, University Services, is appointed operative crisis manager together with Communications Department Manager Hanna Vinborg. In addition, more key roles have been activated in the crisis organisation.
  • The Student Health Care at JU have been in contact with the Infection Control Department at Ryhov hospital for guidelines on how to best inform students and staff.
  • Information and advice regarding the coronavirus, for our students and staff, have been posted on the Student Web and the intranet. In the information, we refer to Region Jönköping County and the Public Health Agency of Sweden.
  • The International Office at JU has been in contact with a student in Hong Kong and ensured that the student is in good health and well informed regarding the situation.
  • The International Office at JU is informing students with scheduled exchange studies in China during the spring semester that we may have to look at alternative exchange destinations.
  • A crisis phone line has been activated at the Student Health Care at JU. The purpose of the phone line is to respond to queries from worried students. The questions are answered by the Counsellor at JU. During the weekend and Monday, six students have been in contact with the counsellor.

  • The HR department at JU is investigating further whether any JU staff are in China or are expected to travel to China in the near future. At present we know that no JU staff have travelled to the destination of the Hubei province since 17 January, according to the travel agency that JU uses for business trips.
  • As we have previously advised External link, opens in new window. there has been one confirmed case of the coronavirus in Jönköping. Both the Infection Control Department (Smittskyddsenheten) at Jönköping County and the Public Health Agency of Sweden External link, opens in new window. (Folkhälsomyndigheten) consider that this is an isolated case and that there is no increased risk of infection for the general public in Jönköping county or Sweden.
