About the membership in Jönköping Student Union
To guarantee the students influence at Jönköping University, the University has decided that it is mandatory for students to be a member of Jönköping Student Union. The Student Union is an important function at the University as the students own association.
Membership fees
As soon as you are registered to a course or a program you are in the university database. About two weeks after you are registered you will receive a notice of payment to your registered address. When you’ve paid you will receive a plastic card proving that you are a member of the Student Union.
It will take about three weeks for this card to arrive. This card proves that you are a member of the Student Union and is valid with an ID card. Sometimes this process goes wrong for different reasons and the notice of payment gets lost. In that case you are more than welcome to contact Student Service.
The cost of membership is as follows:
280 SEK per semester if you are taking 16-30 HP per semester
175 SEK per semester if you are taking 7,6-15 HP per semester
35 SEK per semester if you are taking 7,5 HP or less per semester
You can pay the membership fee or get a receipt for an already paid fee at Student Service, bottom floor in Student House. It costs 20 SEK extra if you pay the fee there. You can also pay the fee on our membership portal online, you find it here.
What do I get as a member of Jönköping Student Union?
Student influence: The main purpose of the Student Union is to guarantee that all the students at Jönköping University will receive an education of high quality and is provided with the opportunity to a good life- and study situation. A membership in the Student Union is to take a stand for Student influence. The Student Union is the students’ voice against the University, the Municipality and the Government. We practice influence in order to make sure that a student perspective in not missing when important decisions are made.
Educational quality: You can turn to the Student Union if you feel wrongly treated by a member of staff or in any other way are unsatisfied with your education. The Student Union are constantly working to ensure that Jönköping University offer education of high quality. If you are having trouble with your education you can contact the president of your schools student association, responsible for educational quality. Look under the heading ‘Contact’ for email and phone-number information.
Social welfare quality: the concept of social welfare quality includes everything in your life as a student that is not directly linked to your education. Within this field, Jönköping Student Union works for better and more affordable student housing, more beneficial student discounts and a more stimulating leisure time.
Events and trips: As a member of the Student union you also have the possibility to take part in all the different events and trips we arrange throughout the year, for instance the Spring Prom, trips to Norway and Kiruna and Student Water Event and so much more.
Student Volunteer Work: The Student Union is driven and run by students committing themselves to work on a voluntary basis. As a member of the Student Union there are possibilities to get involved and active, each year there are different committees, project groups and other organs forming to make sure the organization is working and operating under the best conditions. These organs includes everything from the election committee to party-committees, delegation member in the Student Union general meeting called Årsmöte and other campaign groups. To work on a voluntary basis within the Student Union will provide you with new friends but also merits for the future.
Leisure time activities: The Student Union also work to ensure that there are activities outside your studies to get involved in, for instance through cooperation and sponsorship with the student associations connected to the student union. The Student Union also arranges smaller and more frequent events such as Quiz nights and Movie nights.
KårsOrdet, through Metro Student Magazine: Is the Student Union membership magazine and as a member of the Student Union you will find it on campus. The magazine has articles about everything from news within the student world and in depth stories to cultural chronicles. It is fun, interesting and relevant reading for you as a student.
