All institutions, University and University College, has at least one Student Union. At Jönköping University, it is Jönköping Student Union who is the student union and association. It is run by students, for students.
Jönköping Student Union has around 10 000 members which are all students at the University. It is the members who decide what the Student Union shall operate for, the members decide this during the Annual Meeting. The Student Union’s main tasks involve educational watch, educational quality, social welfare quality as well as keeping a good relationship with the Student Union’s national cooperation partner, SFS.
Today, the organization converts 19 million SEK, have seven full time employees and eight students that also work full time through a commission of trust which lasts for a year. The students are either done with their studies or have an interruption of studies.
The employees at the Student Union are in charge of administration and economics as well as the Student Unions nightclub Akademien, the café Books&Coffee and Student Service, which is located at the bottom floor in Student House.
Four trustees works at the Student Union and four trustees works at each specialist college. The four trustees at the specialist colleges functions with the Student Union to strengthen the student association at the specialist college.
Jönköping Student Union supports associations at campus which focuses on everything from pyrotechnics to sports. This kind of association does not have the same responsibility as the student associations mentioned above.
